Clinical FAQ’s

  • HOW DO I ACCESS THE ALGORITHM REPORTS?

All of Imbio outputs can be configured to automatically send to PACS. Outputs can also be viewed using Imbio’s secure web-based application we call Portal.

  • HOW FAST DO THE ALGORITHMS RUN?

The length of time it takes depends on several factors beyond Imbio’s control, but once we receive the imaging data, we process the information and generate outputs in as few as 4 minutes.

  • WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LDAi AND LDAf?

LDAi provides a fully-automated assessment of areas indicative of emphysema in < 5 minutes, based on a single inspiratory chest CT. It is validated for use with low-dose CT scans as a component of lung cancer screening programs, and includes a physician report and a patient-centered LungMapTM report.

LDAf provides a fully-automated analysis giving a complete mapping of normal lung vs. areas indicative of air-trapping & emphysema. LDAf is based on a paired inspiration and an expiration chest CT and it provides the maximum information for personalized care decisions & procedure planning.

  • HOW CAN WE USE LDAi IN OUR LUNG CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM?

LDAi provides a fully-automated assessment of areas indicative of emphysema in < 5 minutes, based on a single inspiratory chest CT. It is validated for use with low-dose CT scans as a component of lung cancer screening programs, and includes a physician report and a patient-centered LungMapTM report.

Some Imbio clients have elected to run all of their chest CT’s through the LDAi algorithm seeking to quantify emphysema in their patient population and ensure those patients receive the appropriate treatment sooner rather than later.

  • WHAT MAKES LDAf SO UNIQUE?

LDAf is a patented technology licensed from the University of Michigan. LDAf provides a fully-automated analysis giving a complete mappingof normal lung vs. areas indicative of air-trapping & emphysema. LDAf is based on a paired inspiration and an expiration chest CT and it provides the maximum information for personalized care decisions & procedure planning.

  • RV/LV IS A SIMPLE CALIPER MEASUREMENT. WHAT’S THE VALUE FOR THE HOSPITAL AND PHYSICIANS?

Researchers in the United Kingdom recently published a paper on RV/LV in the European Radiology journal. “The use of automated analysis led to a change in risk stratification in 45% of patients.”

    European Radiology https://doi.org/10.1007/s00330-020-07605-y

  • IS YOUR LTA ALGORITHM THE SAME AS CALIPER?

Yes, LTA is the same as Caliper which Imbio licensed from the Mayo Clinic.

  • WHICH PRODUCTS HAVE FDA 510(k) CLEARANCE?

    LDAi, LDAf and RV/LV

  • WHICH PRODUCTS HAVE CE MARK?

    LDAi, LDAf, LTA

  • CAN ALL OF YOUR PRODUCTS BE USED FOR RESEARCH?

Yes, all of our products as well as some of our development algorithms can be used for research purposes. Imbio has assisted with numerous research projects in pharma and life sciences research, as well as specific academic projects. We offer a variety of logistical options for you and our algorithms are available for research through partners such as Flywheel.

  • WHERE ARE YOUR PRODUCTS USED TODAY?

Imbio algorithms have been used for research or clinical use in fifteen countries by radiologists, pulmonologists, rheumatologists, immunologists, data scientists and others. We support areas such as diagnostic radiology, interventionalists, as well as medical device, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical companies.

Technical FAQ’s

  • DOES IMBIO WORK WITH ANY SCANNER MANUFACTURER OR VENDOR?

Yes! IMBIO works with every scanner make and model. No post-processing
workstations/packages are required from the scanner manufacturers.

  • WHAT ARE THE SCAN PARAMETERS FOR EACH OF THE ALGORITHMS?

For scan parameter specifications including the required or recommended kernels, please contact us at support@imbio.com.

  • WHAT ARE THE INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS FOR IMBIO?

Imbio algorithm products can run either on our Core Compute Platform (ICCP) or one one of our many partner platforms. If your institution prefers to use Imbio’s platform, our ICCP can be installed completely on premise within the hospital firewall, or we can install bridge software within the hospital firewall to securely communicate between your PACS (and/or scanners) and our deployment in the AWS cloud. To configure on-premise server(s), the Imbio team uses remote access via Site2Site VPN tunnel, client-based VPN connection, or portal-based connection. For server specifications, please contact support@imbio.com.

  • HOW FAST IS THE IMBIO INSTALLATION?

We have a very efficient implementation workflow that requires minimal effort from our clients. We can usually take your team from the start of IMBIO platform implementation to live, in 2 weeks or less.

  • DOES IMBIO COME WITH ITS OWN WORKSTATION?

No, Imbio is located on a DICOM-in/DICOM-out server and does not require any client workstations.

  • WHAT IS THE WORKFLOW BETWEEN THE SCANNER, IMBIO AND PACS?

Imbio algorithms are added as a node to your scanner(s) and your PACS is configured to receive images from the Imbio server. Images go from the scanner(s) via DICOM to the ICCP and then via DICOM to PACS without altering your normal workflow.

  • HOW DO I ACCESS THE IMBIO PROCESSED IMAGES?

The Imbio results are immediately sent to PACS. Email notifications can be enabled to alert a user when a job is complete.

  • CAN I CHANGE THE ALGORITHM THRESHOLDS?

Yes. Imbio allows you to configure algorithm thresholds at installation.

  • DOES THE CT TECHNICIAN NEED TO INITIATE THE IMBIO PROCESSING?

No, Imbio is a fully automated software platform. Once the scan is complete, images can be auto-sent to Imbio algorithms for processing and sent to PACS.

  • HOW LONG DOES THE IMBIO SERVER STORE THE IMAGES?

The Imbio server automatically purges data, the frequency of which depends on the site. For site-specific inquiries about Imbio data storage, please contact us support@imbio.com.

  • HOW ARE IMBIO UPGRADES HANDLED?

Our installation and implementation teams will notify you of Imbio upgrades and will work with your IT group to schedule upgrade times that minimize any disruption to your clinical team.

  • ARE YOU GDPR AND HIPAA COMPLIANT?

Yes. We are third party HIPAA compliant certified by Compliancy Group.  Compliancy Group is one of the most well known 3rd-party HIPAA compliance certifiers in the industry for small to mid-size businesses.  Imbio is GDPR compliant with third party review of practices and policies by Product Consulting Group, a third party independent GDPR consulting service based in Minneapolis, MN.

  • HOW DO YOU ENSURE THE SECURITY OF THE DATA?

In our cloud solution, we de-identify data before it leaves your institution and re-identify the data upon return. We also use the latest encryption technology to encrypt data both in transit and at rest.
